Vines
The
clematis is one of the most beautiful flowered vines. Not to mention
one of the most sought after. I currently have a purple one that is
absolutely gorgeous. My clematis loves having her photo taken. She is a
natural for beauty. She too comes back year after year.
The Hummingbird Vine is beautiful deep orange, that obviously by it's name attracts hummingbirds. This is a rapid grower. Dense green foliage is also very attractive.
Another personal favorite is Wisteria. I currently have wisteria growing across my entrance trellis/arbor. Noticed that it had a few blooms on it just the other day. (It's beginning of August, now.) Chinese and Japanese varieties can be very invasive. It grows rather quickly and has large draping grape like blooms. It blooms in spring and some varieties will bloom again late summer or early fall.
Bordering
If you
are looking for something to border your gardens. I highly recommend
"monkey grass". It will multiply quickly and helps keep other weeds and
unwanted plants from growing into your beds. The roots on the monkey
grass is so thick, it helps keep other grasses from spreading into your
garden.
Very easy to start new borders from existing plants. Drought resistant. Lavender blooms accent them in summer. Full sun or shade they will grow anywhere!
Tropical
Elephant ears are always a pleasant
display in a yard. It gives it a little bit of a "tropical" feel.
However plant these where you have plenty of room. They do get quite
large and they do spread. Elephant ears also have a variety of colors
you can choose from.
Bushes
Azaleas, gardenias, butterfly and lilac
bushes are among my favorites. They bring back fond memories of my
grandmothers garden. They are slow starters, but once they have had a
year or two in the ground they will start to grow. Many varieties and
colors to choose from.
Gardenias and lilac bushes are some of the most fragrant and most loved. They give a warm welcome of home to any landscape. These bushes will last for years with proper care.
